8 tips to love yourself more

It’s time to start loving ourselves! Here's 8 top tips to learn how to do this.

1. Post-it notes on your mirror
Choose some affirmations that you like from the Affirmations section. Write them on post-it notes and place them on your mirror to read everyday. In front of the mirror is where we experience the most body hate.
Things like, “I am enough”, “Love your body”, and “You’re beautiful” will help you to reaffirm those beliefs every day - and in front of the mirror is probably where you need those pick-me ups the most!
2. Throw the scales away
You'll get sick of me banging on about the scales soon enough. But weighing yourself can really become an obsession. It can control you. It really can have the power over your happiness and self-worth.
I know for me, weighing myself each morning determined how good a day I would have. How awful is that? The number on the scale does not define your worth, it simply tells you your relationship with the gravity of the earth. Throw the bitch away!
3. If you wouldn’t say it to your friends, don’t say it to yourself
When you find yourself being critical of your body, ask yourself, “Would I say this to a friend?”, the answer will most likely be “No”. Treat your body like your best friend!
4. Learn to accept a compliment
How many times do you receive a compliment and your immediate reaction is to undervalue yourself? You say something like "thank you, but..."
Stop this. Accept the compliment. Show your gratitude and thank them. You can accept compliments. It's not big-headed.
5. Get rid of clothes that don't fit
How many different sizes of clothes do you have in your wardrobe? I used to have every size from size 6 right up to size 18. I was a serial yo-yo dieter and I used to torture myself by keeping my size 6/8 clothing hoping that one day I would fit into them.
Stop torturing yourself, donate your clothing and when you hit your goals go out and splash out on some clothes you feel amazing in!
6. Question whether hating your body is actually helping
You have been criticising yourself for years. Has it helped? Does shaming your body actually do anything for you? Does it make you feel better? Does it make anything change?
No, it doesn’t. So ask yourself these questions out loud, and hopefully you'll realise that you're just wasting precious energy on hate.
7. Don’t compare yourself to others
Comparison is the thief of joy. Everybody is different, and our bodies change significantly as we grow older.
It is normal and healthy to not look like what we looked like 5 years ago. It is important to be happy and healthy in the bodies we have now. Comparing yourself to others, or even yourself, does nothing for you, so just be(you)tiful!
8. Challenge the idea that thin people are happier
Do you know any thin people who are unhappy? Do you know any larger people who are happy? People can be happy or unhappy at any size.
Challenge yourself to think of one thing you are happy about in your life right now, and the next time you compare yourself to others who are thinner, remember that you don’t know what they have been through or are going through.
