Journalling is something I did a lot as a child. Writing poems and pouring out my heart were a daily activity for me. I don't remember why I did it back then and definitely grew out of it by the time I hit my teens and all life's distractions got in the way.

3 years ago, I bought myself a journal and I decided I wanted to start writing again. Not only to have a whole 365 days of the year that I logged and could always flick through and literally read what I did every day in that whole year.
But I did it for my mindset.
I had read so much and heard lots about the benefits of journaling and getting your thoughts and any worries you may have down on paper.
I knew that getting it out of my head would help me put things into perspective and work though any issues I was going through at the time. Especially with trying to rationalise and settle my anxieties a little.
So that's exactly what I did. Some days I filled the page and some days I just wrote a snippet of what was happening.
The good, the bad and the ugly went in that diary.
I really found the process helped me to clear my mind and feel in control and totally better about the situation.
This helped in particular with my emotional eating habits. When I felt like a binge, I would journal first to try and figure out my trigger and hopefully settle my cravings.
At the end of each day I wrote…."
All is well in my world”.
No matter how well or how bad the day was, I always ended it with that little positive quote.
To round the day off, recognising that no matter what is happening, everything was all good.
I have now been doing it for a few years, and know when I get caught up with things in my mind I need to grab my journal and write. It has become one of my favourite ways to let off steam and get clarity on situations.
So if this sounds like something you would want to do, why not get a journal and start?
Show your mind some love and let it flow with whatever it needs to.
