Sweet & Sour Tofu

20 Minute Sweet & Sour Tofu. Lots of flavours converting a fave Chinese takeaway into a cheap and vegetarian meal.

Serves: 2 Time: 20 minutes



  • 1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce

  • 1⁄2 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 140g Firm Tofu, cubed

  • 3 Tablespoons Cornstarch

  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

  • 1⁄2 Carrot, chopped

  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, chopped

  • 1⁄2 Onion, chopped

For The Sauce

  • 2 Tablespoon Brown Sugar

  • 1 Tablespoon Tomato Paste

  • 1⁄2 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 1 Teaspoon Soy Sauce

  • 3 Tablespoon Water

  • 2 Teaspoon Cornstarch

  • 1 Pack Microwavable Rice or 50g dry weight rice per person


  1. In a small bowl, combine the soy and apple cider vinegar. Add the tofu and allow to marinate for 5 mins. Once ready, drain well and toss the tofu in the cornstarch.

  2. In a large non-stick pan, heat the oil and once hot add the tofu, once all sides are browned, then remove from the heat.

  3. Next combine all the sauce ingredients, mix well then add the sauce to a small saucepan, stirring while heating up allowing it to thicken.

  4. Meanwhile, heat the rice according to the package instructions.

  5. Finally, add the veggies and sauce in the pan with the tofu. Continue to cook for 5 more minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Serve the tofu on top of the cooked rice with a sprinkle of sesame seeds if you have any!
