Binge eating. It's something I have battled with for many many years.

Binge eating is a very common practice and I'm pretty sure the majority of us are have experienced this.

We tend to binge eat when we are happy and we binge eat when we are sad.

You may eat to the point of discomfort, then be plagued by feelings of guilt, shame, or depression afterwards.

You might beat yourself up for your lack of self-control, or worry about what the compulsive eating will do to your body.

When food is linked to emotion - we find it very difficult to get ourselves out of that cycle and end up going further into it as a result.

The good news is that you CAN learn to break the binge eating cycle, better manage your emotions, develop a healthier relationship with food, and regain control over your eating and your health.

Try these tips to avoid food binges:

  1. Keep a food diary. It will help you learn when you tend to binge. You can also see what was going on in your life that may have led you to do it. Find the pattern. Break the cycle.

  2. Eat regular meals and healthy snacks throughout the day. They'll keep your blood sugar steady, so you won't feel hungry enough to binge. I know I binge even when I'm full, but being more organised with meal prepping should help you become less h-angry and reaching for something fast.

  3. Portion out your food. Taking control of portion sizes, once you've finished your dinner brush your teeth and put in mouthwash.

  4. Think about why you're bingeing. Are you depressed or anxious? Find another way to soothe these emotions and never be afraid to seek professional advice.
