5 reasons that might be stopping you from getting started on your weight loss journey.
“I’m going to start tomorrow”, “I’m going to start on Monday”, “I’ll start on 1st January”.
Sound familiar?
We all tell ourselves we’re going to start on a certain date, but rarely do.
If we actually start on that day, how long does it typically last?
Not long, right?
Honestly, this concept of starting later has always confused me.
We decide we want something, but then put it off.
Why?
If we truly wanted it, we would start right away?
So, why don’t we?
Let’s go through the top 5 reasons we might stop ourselves from getting started:
Reason 1: It’s hard
We know weight loss is difficult, we have to move more, and/or eat less. We typically don’t want to do it because we need to work harder than we currently are.
How do we overcome this?
My biggest tip is to not see exercise as a chore, view it as a hobby.
The key here is to find something you enjoy and look forward to doing.
Don’t like the gym? Cool, then don’t go.
Love playing tennis? Sweet, make that your go to exercise.
Choosing something you love, or at least like will get you excited to go out and do it.

Reason 2: It’s a break of routine
We all get caught up in our day to day lives.
And for most of us, our lives are PACKED!
So, how are we supposed to fit in an exercise session?
There’s 2 options, merge or substitute.
You can build it into your life, such as walking to work instead of taking the car.
OR
Replace an activity with something else. Watch TV every evening? 2 days a week opt for playing tennis instead of watching TV.
Reason 3: We lack resources
How are we supposed to do something if we haven’t got the tools to do it?
Ever tried cutting the grass without a lawnmower?
Of course not, how are you going to cut grass without one?
The same goes for weight loss journeys, how are we going to do it without the right tools?
Spend some time educating yourself in this app with all the help, tips and tricks about how to lose weight in a sustainable way.
Understanding what happens to our body when we workout, and understanding how the mind works might just make this journey more achievable when you look at and understand the science behind it.
Knowledge goes a long way.
Reason 4: We have our reservations
We often don’t start because we’re not 100% into it.
We often want to lose weight but don’t want to make the changes to make it happen.
We need to ask ourselves why we want it to happen.
When we internalise something we are much more likely to go all in.
Reason 5: We don’t believe in ourselves
This holds A LOT of us back!
We want to do it, but don’t believe we can.
We need to be more rational and positive to ourselves.
Next time you tell yourself you can’t do it, question yourself.
Why can’t you do it? Write in your journal and see what comes up for you.
When you really think about it you’ll realise you can, you just need to push yourself and have confidence in your ability.
